New Age Class
New Age dancing is taking over the social dance scene in Australian metropolitan areas with dance programs catering for the new generation of dancers who have taken to the Latin American dances in droves. Much of the current music is based on the rhythms of the Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba and Salsa. Young people are also enjoying the Slow (Jazz) Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Rock’n’Roll and Jive as well as the perennial social Old Time dances like the Pride of Erin, Gypsy Tap etc.
This class normally commences with one of our fun progressive dances to popular current music. This gives total beginners their first taste of moving and co-ordinating rhythmically with a partner. As long as you can walk and hear the beat of the music you will be able to enjoy these dances.
This is followed on by tuition and illustration on one of the modern social group of dances either to slow 3/4, or slow, medium or fast 4/4 time. This dance could be a Tango, Social Foxtrot, Rhythm Dancing or a slow or Jazz Waltz.
Next on the program is tuition and illustration on one of the sequence dances that commonly occur in a social or ball dance program. Ron gives a detailed explanation of waltz turns as they occur in these dances. Every effort is made to ensure a beginner receives help from a more experienced partner. This dance could be Gypsy Tap, Evening 3 Step, Oxford Waltz etc.
The third phase of this class is Latin American which is extremely popular as many of the current hits use latin rhythms such as Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, Rumba or the evergreen rock beats.
This class is designated for absolute beginners to intermediate social dancers. Following the 7:00pm – 8:30pm class is a semi-advanced class where social dancers are able to develop their skills to a higher level allowing pupils to advance to bronze medal standard in both Modern and New Vogue styles. There is no further cost to stay for this advanced class.
